Project: Synthesis and test of vacuum-processable non-fullerene acceptors
EIFFEL has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2022 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Doctoral Networks (HORIZON-MSCA-2022-DN-01) scheme, grant agreement number: 101119780.
Project description:
Objectives: The DC has a passion for organic chemistry and will be trained in organic synthesis of OPV materials and the required analytical methods to characterise the outcome of the synthesis work, including NMR, HPLC-MS, GC-MS, DSC, TGA, and optical spectroscopy. Beside synthesis, the DC will learn which structure motives are suitable for achieving aligned energy levels and to preserve the required thermal stability for the vacuum deposition. Finally, the DC will learn basics about vacuum deposition of OPV and solar cell characterisation to use this information in an iterated feedback loop for improvement of following materials.
Expected Results: 1) Practical and theoretical knowledge in modern organic synthesis of novel solar cell absorber materials suitable for vacuum processing; 2) Complementary skills in synthesis and characterisation of small molecular NFAs including translation of device results to chemical structures; 3) Skilled to perform cutting-edge industrial research with tight collaboration to academia.
The DC will travel abroad for research secondments at partner organisations of the EIFFEL Network and will participate in specialised training meetings and international conferences.
The DC will enroll in the doctoral student programme at University of Angers (France).
Appointment:
The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a maximum period of 36 months (PhD student, regular full-time employment contract). A very attractive salary plus allowances package according to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) – Doctoral Networks rules.
