Doctoral candidates in EIFFEL
Let’s get to know Dragos!
Dragos Florin Flesariu was born in Brasov, Romania, in 1999. He earned his bachelor’s degree in June 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Panayiotis Koutentis at the University of Cyprus. From September 2021 to July 2022, he secured a scientist position in Koutentis’ Research Group, where he continued working on the project he began during his diploma thesis. During this time, he developed new chemistry involving 1,3-diphenylbenzo[e][1,2,4]triazin-7(1H) derivatives, as well as Blatter-type radicals and biradicals. Afterward, Florin joined the University of Vienna, where he focused on chalcogen bonding in solution.
What are his next goals?
Currently, he has embarked on a PhD program at the University of Cyprus as part of the MSCA Doctoral Networks project, Efficient Fullerene-Free Organic Solar Cells (EIFFEL). Florin is particularly excited about advancing the organic synthesis aspect of organic photovoltaics research, aiming to discover new molecules that could potentially achieve power conversion efficiencies closer to the theoretical limit of solar cells. Additionally, he is excited about being part of an international network of doctoral candidates all trying to advance a different characteristic of organic photovoltaics research.
